I want my daughter to have extracurricular activities that she can enjoy throughout childhood and into adulthood. When she is old enough I will enroll her in ballet and music classes but for now she is too young to do those activities. In the latter part of 2012 I researched activities she can participate in as an infant and toddler and found out about
Gymboree and the
Little Gym. Both places offered free introductory mommy and me classes so I checked both of them out and LOVED it! Abby loved them too and had so much fun learning and exploring during the classes. Unfortunately most of the class times aren't convenient for a working mom, but thankfully both places have at least one time spot for her age group that would work for us.

The class aren't super expensive but they aren't cheap either so Jonathon and I had a brief discussion about the pros and cons of enrolling her in a class. We decided it was worth it and plan on starting her at the end of this month. The actual hard decision making was deciding which class to take, Gymboree or the Little Gym? We finally decided on the Little Gym. Since Abby has SOOO much energy we feel the pace of the classes at the Little Gym suit her more and we like the fact that the Little Gym has classes until age 12 which gives us the option to continue her at the same place for a long time, whereas Gymboree stops at age 5. Another thing that nudged me in the direction of choosing the Little Gym is that the introductory class we went to seems to be the unofficial Duke Resident Mommy class! There was a surgery resident, psychiatry resident and pediatric resident in addition to me all there with their little ones. I'm happy with our decision and I'm looking forward to starting classes with my little princess at the Little Gym!!!
I just love Abby's smile in the 3rd pic. She is such a cutie! She certainly looks like she is having a blast at the little gym.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know Gymboree offers mommy and me classes. Will have to look into them. Thanks!
You will love them! If you check it out let me know how it went :)
DeleteWow, this is great. Its a pity they don't offer either in our little town. Looks like Abby had a blast trying out both places. Shes got the most adorable smile in the 3rd picture.
ReplyDeleteIf you have a YMCA near you they might offer some mommy and me classes, for future reference ;)
DeleteIt's so good for little girls to be active at an early age! It'll be a fun thing for the both of you.
ReplyDeleteI think so too! Active and healthy is the goal!
DeleteI love it! I have been trying to get baby girl into a gym class but there is like absolutely no time in the day. I hope baby girl enjoys it- how re u and hubby doing?
ReplyDeleteTotally understand! Do you think baby girl and grandma can go to a class together in the day time while you are at work? Hubby and I are fine, excited about celebrating our little girl and going on a cruise!
DeleteThanks for sharing your experience! I've been thinking about both of these classes for my little one also... I wish both would expand their hours but not much that can be done about that.
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish they would expand their hours! Their times cater to the stay at home moms as does everything else (story time at the library, etc.)
DeleteAbby is too cute! We still haven't checked out Gymboree yet, but will soon! So far, The Little Gym is our fav also.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you two checked it out! We will have round two of the little gym in a week!
DeleteAbby is getting so big already. Love her baby cheeks..very pinch-able:)
